Separated, Bea and Quinn try to find Sequoia, the only remaining sanctuary, while Alina heads in the same direction with her small group of survivors. Also on hand are Alina, one of the first rebels, and Quinn, disaffected son of the pod’s army general. Now, he joins the rebels when he meets Bea on a trip outside the pod. Ronan, son of the dictatorial pod minister, became disillusioned when he helped to destroy the rebels’ sanctuary in the last book.

Readers are plunged directly into the adventure with little recap. It was almost perfect.This conclusion to the dystopian romance begun in Breathe (2012) follows a group of teens trying to survive in the airless, derelict wilderness outside of their domed, tyrannical pod.

The Grove and Sequoia show two different methods of reaction to a post-apocalyptic world - one tries to grow trees in order to return oxygen to the world and one attempts to selectively breed humans who can cope with the lowered level of oxygen in the atmosphere.

Cousin to Alina, he was an openly gay character. In terms of secondary characters, Silas was particularly good. Jude Caffrey was also a good example of character development. I particularly liked Ronan and Bea's interactions and Ronan's development over the two books. All four main characters have grown from the actions of book 1 and Crossan has written the character development excellently. This followed Bea, Quinn, Alina and Ronan and a variety of secondary characters. I loved this book! This was a brilliant sequel to Breathe and follows the Resistance in the Pod and the Resistance within Sequoia, a sister facility to The Grove, featured in book one.
